The Killers-Dustland Fairytale on Letterman

This was a great performance by The Killers on Letterman last month.  Full orchestra was a nice touch.
The lyrics tell a sweet story of the lead singer's (Brandon Flowers) mom.  It tells about how she met her husband at a young age and about their love for each other through the years.  The end/climax talks about her battle with a brain tumor.  i.e. "Cinderella don't you go to sleep.  It's such a bitter form of refuge."  A son's cry for his mom to hold on.

Nice gig. Enjoy.

The Most Helpful Info on "The" Satan

TheCharlieDanielsBand_BottomLine480

I am beginning a new sermon series this Sunday called "Jesus vs. The Jukebox."  The premise is to re-tune our theology to the truth as opposed to the songs on the radio.

The first song I am looking at is "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band. The reason I am starting here is because Satan is one of the most misrepresented beings in the Bible.  i.e. He is not red, does not have horns, does not have a pointed tail, and does not have power anywhere close to God's.

The best place to find out the who, why and how of Satan is Job chapter 1.  Click on over to Biblegateway.com and read this passage in your favorite version.

Favorite New Artist~Brandon Heath

I've heard his songs for awhile now, but am just now putting a face and name to voice on the radio.  My favorite new artist is Brandon Heath.  He sings, Give Me Your Eyes and He's Not Finished With Me Yet.  Here is the video for another nice one from him, I'm Not Who I Was.

Idol Worship

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 4:10,11

Here is a video of the reigning American Idol, Kris Allen, pointing people Godward.

I guess it may be the way I am wired, but I thoroughly enjoy God's strange ways.  His normal ways are great, but the strange ways are exceptionally intriguing to me.

A Little Fun on Friday

I kept the Thursday Midnight Rule...so a little fun on Friday.

This is a great Killers cover of Lauper.  Takes you back to a skating rink in the 80's!

"Human" by The Killers

I am following the Apostle Paul's lead and will be quoting some "secular poetry" this Sunday.  I saw The Killers performance on SNL this week and was intrigued by the juxtaposition used in the lyrics of this song.  If you want to see how I work it into my sermon...stay awake at least until 11:15 this Sunday.

Human

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart...
Cut the cord

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've got to let me go

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know is your heart still beating

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer

You've got to let me know

Warren Barfield Sings "Love is Not a Fight"

Jackie and I loved the movie Fireproof!!  Great, great story.  In the movie I heard this song and recognized the voice...but couldn't place the singer.  I Googled the song and found out that it was Warren Barfield.  Jackie and I saw him open for FFH 6 or 7 years ago. It was just his guitar and his great voice.

He is one of those singers who can't help moving as he sings...like he is connected bodily to the song...i.e. David Gray, Taylor Hicks, Robert Earl Keen. (all favorites of mine)

Here is a live clip of Warren performing this sweet song.

Vote for Melissa Lawson

If you haven't been watching Nashville Star on Monday nights...tune in on July 28 to vote for Melissa Lawson.  Melissa is a member of Pantego Bible Church where Jackie and I attended last year.

We had the chance to hear Melissa sing a couple of times a month.  She is really a beautiful person and deserves to win this competition.

She is in the top four and next weeks votes determine if she wins...so check it out and vote as many times as you can.

Check out last night's performance...she is singing a song she wrote...Ready to Stand.
