It's a Wonderful Wednesday: Back to School

It's that time again.  I loved going back to school.  A fresh start...new clothes...the smell of Pink Pearls and desk cleaner.  Here is a little humor related to this special day.

To be a first-grade teacher you have to have skill, dedication, and an immunity to knock-knock jokes.

My kids have everything they need to go back to school—except the right attitude.

The best part of going back to school is seeing all your friends. The worst part is that your teachers won’t let you talk to them.

School is where you always try to do your best—except when your friends are watching.

Fifth graders in Georgia are using worms to recycle garbage from school lunches. But even the worms won't eat the Salisbury steak.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

It's a Wonderful Wednesday: Hasselhoff

Did anyone else buy this album, or was it just me?  I must have been around 7 or so when I bought the cassette at TG&Y.  David Hasselhoff really defined my childhood.  I loved Knight Rider!

Some of my fondest memories revolve around rainy Friday nights, indoor tents made out of sheets and card tables, and our little TV lighting up the interior.  There were my friends KITT, Michael, the smart girl, and the old guy.

In the first grade, I went to Ryan Robinson's birthday party. The theme was Knight Rider!  I can still see the Trans-Am stickers that he gave away.

You can call me whatever names you want, but I really enjoyed that Night Rocker album.  I would pop it in my tiny cassette player and Dave would sing me to sleep with that soothing voice of his.  Ah, what great times.

Thank God for childhood innocence and indoor tents.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It's a Wonderful Wednesday: George

I ran into George this morning like I do every other day.  Both of our morning routines include getting up early and going to McDonalds.  We have never sat together, but always greet each other and check up on how life is going.

I am usually there first.  Eating, reading, journaling. I don't have to look up to know George is there.  Nearly everyone who works at "my McDonalds" is hispanic and so is George.  He walks in with his cane and is yelling happy greetings from the doorway to the counter.  Everyone says welcome to George in their native language.  He is so happy to see everyone...every day.  Beautiful stuff.

Today I arrived around 6:15 AM and George was already in his van to leave.  He rolled down his window to greet me and asked if I had a minute.  "Sure," I replied.  "Always."  He pulled out his digital camera and shared a picture of his wife's car with a tree smashed on top of it.  We had a wild storm here in Phoenix last night and quite a bit of damage was done.  He was chuckling though.  No worries for him.

George went on to show me pictures of his birthday party in Las Vegas.  All of his family was there so he told me who was who.  Actually he shared a lot in those 3-4 minutes.  He asked me to be thinking of him today because he is starting a new job.  He hasn't worked in awhile so he was not sure how it would go...no worries though.  Oh yeah, the birthday party in Vegas that he just celebrated...it was his 80th.

Thank God that we can share our lives with such wonderful people.  And for strangers like George who are really great friends.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It's a Wonderful Wednesday: Heaven

Wednesdays can be hard.  They're right in the middle of the week. Last weekend's fun has worn off.  You have too much to do by Friday to daydream about the upcoming weekend.  That's why I'm going to post wonderful things right here every Wednesday.  The first Wonderful Wednesday post is a little poem that I think could be incorporated beautifully into a prayer.  I found it in The Book of Jesus by Calvin Miller.  This book is a compilation of writings about Christ from various authors-from Augustine to Lucado.

I hope you enjoy this first installment of It's a Wonderful Wednesday.

Heaven

by Robert E. Selle

Think of--
Stepping on shore, and finding it Heaven!
Of taking hold of a hand, and finding it God's hand.
Of breathing a new air, and finding it celestial air.
Of feeling invigorated, and find it immortality.
Of passing from storm to tempest to an unbroken calm.
Of waking up, and finding it Home.
